Sydney’s disruptive lock-down? Our residents are leading a pretty close to normal life. They follow the Olympic games and make up their own non-olympic games. Lots of excellent photos in our facebook feed and in the monthly newsletter, which you can download now.
And a quick reminder about Employee Day this week. Send a message to our staff. Encouragement goes a long way during this strange and unpredictable time.
With Sydney in lock-down because of the COVID outbreak, here is a peek at what our residents are doing…
Well… actually, life is pretty normal in the ATV ‘bubble”. While staff wear masks and observe strict protocols, residents experience an environment that is more “normal” than might be expected. Katja Jeffries manages an Activities team which doesn’t just entertain, but provides company and encourages fitness routines.
While, traditionally, resident activities were just held in the Main Hall, now the coffee shop and the media room in the new wing provide additional venues to engage residents, and special sessions are held for residents in dementia care where appropriate.
And one-on-one counselling for individual residents who can’t participate in broader activities is provided by Effie Burgoyne. Yes, we are missing our trusty band of volunteers who supplement our regular staff of Katja, Janina, Nadia & Effie.. However, for a modest size facility like Abel Tasman Village, resident activities are remarkably well resourced.
Just when you thought that everyone was focussed on vaccines, our activities department put out the usual monthly calendar of activities. Life goes on…
Please be sure to read Margaret’s message in the newsletter. Our residents might have some restrictiction in movement and visitors, but activities come together anyway!
As you know, in Sydney, Aged Care Facilities can’t admit visitors right now. Hopefully that won’t last long. Please read Margaret’s note in the newsletter and of course, you can book a phone or video call with a resident.
We’ve just finished our June newsletter, which you can upload from here.
Apart from the Queen’s Birthday, an activity to highlight this month is our Malta Day on 24th. Lots of things to celebrate!
Oh, and a quick reminder that all visitors need to have had the 2021 Flu vaccination. I know we’ve had other things on our mind this year, but it’s an essential item in the care for our residents.
April is a busy month at Abel Tasman Village. Easter is now upon us and before we know it, we’ll have Anzac Day and the King’s Birthday! Download our April Newsletter & Calendar here.
We’ve just finalised the ATV March newsletter for download. All the news that’s fit to print (those COVID vaccinations are getting closer and this month we all pretend to be Irish.
But of course for the Dutch and those who enjoy Dutch food and customs, there is always the Rembrandt Social Club and its March newsletter here.
Also, a quick reminder that we update the Visitors page regularly with all the information regarding visits to Abel Tasman Village. You can always find the page under the Contact Us menu!
Out with the old, in with the new… That was quite a year wasn’t it? Thankfully, our Activities department has the program for the first month of 2021. A year which is bound to be different!
Be sure to read messages from Sophia and Elizabett as well as last month’s reportage and activity schedule in our newletter. It’s all here!
The November newsletter is now online. A big month, with the Melbourne Cup festivitates and of course Remembrance Day on the 11th November. Download the newsletter here.
This category is for any individual who enters the aged care system under the full
regulations of the new program.
Definition: A client who is approved to receive services under the Support at Home program from November 1, 2025, onwards.
Key Implication: These clients will fall entirely under the new contribution and funding rules established for the Support at Home program from the moment they begin receiving services.
This category covers individuals who entered the system during the transition period after the initial announcement but before the new system fully begins.
Definition: A client who was approved for a Home Care Package between September 13, 2024, and October 31, 2025 (inclusive).
Key Implication: These clients are treated as being on a path to the new system. They will move to the standard client contribution framework of the Support at Home program.
Transition: They will officially transition to the new client contribution framework and funding model on November 1, 2025.
This category is for those who were already engaged with the existing system prior
to the major legislative changes being announced.
Definition: A client who, as of September 12, 2024, was in one of the following situations:
* Currently receiving a Home Care Package (HCP).
* On the National Priority System (NPS) waiting list for an HCP.
* Assessed as eligible for an HCP.
Key Implication: The “no worse off” principle applies to this group. This is a critical protection ensuring that Grandfathered Clients will not pay more in client contributions than they would have under the previous Home Care Package fee structure.
Transition: Their current fee arrangements will remain in place until the Support at Home program commences on November 1, 2025, and the “no worse off” principle will continue to protect them beyond that date.
