Update 2 January 2022

Hello to you all.

This is an update on the COVID 19 outbreak at Abel Tasman Village. As at today 2/1/22, we have 1 resident confirmed positive with a PCR test and 1 resident testing positive with a rapid antigen test (awaiting PCR result). The first resident who tested positive is almost at the end of their isolation period and we are thankful they have exhibited virtually no symptoms, apart from a slight headache. The second resident who has tested positive with a rapid antigen test lives in the same area of Abel Tasman Village and was identified as a close contact early in the outbreak. This resident had recently tested negative via a rapid antigen test so their infectiousness in the last few days is not viewed as significant by the Public Health Unit.

We have this morning met with the Public Health Unit (PHU) as we have 15 staff who have now either tested positive or have been identified as close contacts. We are working closely with Government officials to manage the roster and fill any gaps. Again, all these staff had recently tested negative via rapid antigen test so their infectiousness is viewed as minimal, particularly as all staff have been in full PPE from Boxing Day.

However, we understand that this will certainly worry family members. You can be assured that, at this stage, all remaining residents are well and not exhibiting any symptoms. If that changes at any time for your loved one, you will be informed immediately.

We have been approached by some families in relation to booking video calls etc. We are hoping to have this up and running mid week. As you can imagine, the situation is highly volatile and we have been directed to allocate all resources at this stage to infection control and monitoring of residents. We will be in touch once the booking system is reactivated.

I would like to acknowledge the ATV staff who continue to work through this situation with grace whilst facing extreme challenges. Our Care Manager is working tirelessly with his clinical team to ensure the highest level of safety for all residents. Please bear in mind that the staff are under immense pressure at the moment. If you are calling ATV please try to be understanding and polite to staff. They certainly do not need to be abused or harassed in their work at any time.

We will keep you updated with any further information as it becomes available.

Thank you,

ATV management
